To our firefighters, first responders, and all those involved with fighting the River Fire, we sincerely thank you. We would also like to thank our clients who continue to call and check on our Las Palmas office. Our employees and office are safe thanks to these exceptional individuals. To all those affected by the fire our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. May our community stay strong and band together during these trying times.
Fire Evacuation Tips:
What Documents to Grab and What to Leave Behind
Don’t worry about tax return copies if they’re not right at hand. Between your CPA and the IRS they can be replaced.
These days almost all of your critical documents can be replaced through other means such as deeds, etc. so if they’re not quickly available to grab don’t put yourself at risk to find them.
Bank statements, credit card statements, investment account statements can be recreated in most cases.
For computers, if not backed up off-site, just grab the main box. Don’t worry about the monitors, keyboards, etc.
If you have the time, use your phone to quickly take a video of each room in your home showing its contents. Don’t forget to open closets. This can help support any insurance claims.
Your Wills, Living Trusts, etc. are likely in your attorney’s and CPA’s files. Don’t take risks if you’re pressed for time.
Most importantly there are no financial records worth your life. Follow what the fire and emergency authorities are telling you.
